Headache is the leading cause of days lost at work, disability, misery and can be an indicator of a serious underlying medical problem for example a brain tumour. The first question to answer is whether your headache is a ‘Secondary’ problem caused by an underlying problem such as a tumour or clot or a ‘Primary’ problem, in which the headache itself is the main issue, for example as occurs with Migraine headache.

In our consultation, I will ensure that we are not missing a serious underlying issue by taking an indepth history and performing a comprehensive examination and I will organise rapid test to make sure if necessary. We will then focus on how we can best manage your condition and get you headache free.

Most patients who need medical help with their headache are suffering Migraine Headaches. There is no test available to diagnose Migraine headache, we are reliant on your description. To get the most out of your consultation it may be best to record your experiences fully.

You may wish to use a headache diary - good ones are available from the British Society for the Study of Headache and The Migraine Trust. There are several apps available which do the same thing and which you might find more convenient.

If you have a chronic headache it is even more important to keep a diary, this will not only help in diagnosing your condition but will also help us monitor your response to treatment and ensure you’re getting the best treatment available.

Records of which treatments you have tried before, all the way from simple over the counter preparations to cutting edge drugs are also very important in making you a personalised and comprehensive management plan for the future.

Please contact my team to organise an appointment so we can find you the best treatment for your headache.
